2012 Indo-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium

2012 IAFOE Participant Information

The 2012 Indo-American Frontiers of Engineering will be held March 1-3, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.  About 60 outstanding engineers under the age of 45 will meet for an intensive 2-1/2 day symposium to discuss cutting-edge developments in four areas: Intelligent Transportation Systems, Engineering at the Interface of Science, Technology Enablers for Advances in Aerospace Materials, and Engineering Large Infrastructure for Disaster/Hazards.  The event is intended to facilitate international and cross-disciplinary research collaboration, promote the transfer of new techniques and approaches across disparate engineering fields, and encourage the creation of an Indo-American network of world-class engineers.

Meeting Format

The symposium runs from Thursday morning through Saturday lunch. In order to achieve the objectives of the program, we ask that you attend all sessions of the entire symposium. This meeting is unlike other meetings you may attend where it is possible to pick and choose the sessions in which you wish to participate. In addition to showing consideration toward all the speakers, who have worked hard preparing for this meeting, you will reap the maximum benefit from the symposium by participating fully in both the formal sessions and informal events over the course of the 2-1/2 day meeting. There is a welcome reception/registration on Wednesday evening at the Hyatt hotel.

Posters: In addition to the technical talks given at the symposium, attendees will have an opportunity to present their work in an afternoon poster session on Thursday, March 1. These posters will be displayed throughout the meeting and provide an opportunity for every participant to share information about his/her work. The material presented can be on posters, but could also include -- particularly for those from industry -- videos, demonstrations of devices, etc.  (Please let us know in advance if you plan to use any sort of device.) Unfortunately, NAE does not have funding available to cover the cost of poster production.  If this is a factor, the information can be presented on individual sheets of paper.  Tacks will be provided.  Display board dimensions are 4 ft. x 4 ft. (1.22 m. x 1.22 m.).

Tours:   There will be a tour Friday afternoon at Lockheed Martin’s Global Vision Center.

Location

The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.  It is served by Dulles International Airport (IAD), which is approximately 28 miles away, and Reagan National Airport (DCA), which is approximately 1.2 miles away.
