The first China-America Frontiers of Engineering (CAFOE) program was held in October 19-21, 2009 in Beijing and Changsha, China. China-America FOE aims to bring together outstanding, early-career Chinese and American engineers from industry, universities, and other research institutions to introduce their areas of engineering research and technical work, thereby facilitating an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge and methodology that could eventually lead to collaborative networks of engineers from the two countries.

The National Academy of Engineering would like to express its gratitude to the The Grainger Foundation for their support of the China-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium.  The Grainger Foundation of Lake Forest, Illinois, established in 1949 by Mr. and Mrs. William Wallace Grainger, has provided substantive support over the years to a broad range of organizations including educational institutions, museums, healthcare and human services
