2009 China-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium

2009 China-America FOE Information for Attendees

We look forward to your participation in the 2009 China-America Frontiers of Engineering program to be held in Changsha, China on October 19-21, 2009.  U.S. participants will need to arrive in Beijing on October 17 before traveling to Changsha on October 18.

This page contains information regarding travel and hotel arrangements, in addition to other meeting details.  Information will be updated periodically.  You will also receive emails regarding your particular travel needs, reimbursements, and agenda book information from Jacqueline Martin or Janet Hunziker.

We will need additional information to assist you in submitting a visa application. Please provide the required information by Friday, June 12 to expedite your visa preparation.

Meeting Format

Symposium events will begin on Saturday evening, October 17, with a reception for US attendees in Beijing.  US attendees will fly to Changsha the following day and there will be a reception on Sunday evening with all attendees.  The symposium itself begins Monday, October 19 and runs through Wednesday, October 21.

In order to achieve the objectives of the program, we ask that you attend all sessions of the entire symposium. This meeting is unlike other meetings you may attend where it is possible to pick and choose the sessions in which you wish to participate. In addition to showing consideration toward all the speakers, who have worked hard preparing for this meeting, you will reap the maximum benefit from the symposium by participating fully in both the formal sessions and informal events over the course of the meeting.

Posters

In additon to the technical talks given at the symposium, attendees will have an opportunity to present their work in an afternoon poster session on Monday, October 19.  The posters will be displayed throughout the meeting.  Each participant will be provided a display area of 60 cm(w) x 90 cm(h) to post his/her poster.  Thumbtacks will be provided for affixing your sheets of paper or posters to the panel.  If you would like to display any sort of device, let Jacqueline know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.  Please make sure your name and contact information are noted somewhere on the poster.  Printing a poster can be expensive, and if you can display your information on sheets of paper, much like a PPT presentation, that can work just as well as a large poster and is easier to transport.  Unfortunately, NAE does not have funding available to reimburse the cost of printing a poster.

Location and Transportation

The meeting will be held at Jinxian Hotel in Changsha and transportation to and from the meeting site will be provided each day.

You will need to arrive in Beijing (PEK) by October 17.  On October 18, CAE requests that you take China Air flight 1349 departing Bejing at 11:25 am and arriving in Changsha(CSX) at 1:30 pm.  On October 18, CAE will provide transportation from the Beijing hotel to the airport and from the Changsha airport to the hotel.

On your return flight back, if layover occurs in Beijing, it is recommended that you allow at least 160 minutes between flights.
