FOE was instrumental in broadening my perspective on career development through exposure to engineers in different disciplines, industries, and career paths. It was fascinating to see how my peers were leveraging emerging technologies to augment not only their applied research, but their core competencies as well. This exposure is invaluable, especially early in a career as engineers try to balance the need for technical depth with the desire to grow technical breadth. In my own career, I’ve pivoted from doing fundamental R&D in advanced materials, to building digital solutions for some of the world’s most complex assets. FOE helped me to understand that such pivots are not only common, but critical to innovation.
