We look forward to your participation at the 2009 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium, to be held April 22-25 in Potsdam, Germany. This site contains information on hotel and travel arrangements, as well as other meeting events. Updates will be made periodically.
Visas If you hold a U.S. passport, a visa is not necessary for business trips of less than 90 days. If you hold a passport from another country, you can check the website or call the nearest German consulate to see whether you need a visa.
Meeting Format The symposium runs from Thursday morning through Saturday lunch. In order to achieve the objectives of the program, we ask that you attend all sessions of the entire symposium. There is an optional welcome reception on Wednesday evening. Due to the timing of flights from the U.S., you will need to schedule your travel so that you arrive in Germany on Wednesday, April 22. This meeting is unlike other meetings you may attend where it is possible to pick and choose the sessions in which you wish to participate. In addition to showing consideration toward all the speakers, who have worked hard preparing for this meeting, you will reap the maximum benefit from the symposium by participating fully in both the formal sessions and informal events over the course of the 2-½ day meeting.
Location & Transportation The meeting will be held at the Steigenberger Hotel Sanssouci in Potsdam, Germany.
Potsdam is located outside of Berlin. The closest international airport is Berlin Tegel International Airport (TXL). To get to the hotel from the airport, you can either take the bus and train or a taxi. We will provide more detailed information regarding transportation to and from the hotel closer to the meeting date.
Hotel Accomodation A block of rooms for symposium participants has been reserved at the Steigenberger Hotel Sanssouci in Potsdam, which is also where the conference will be held. Rooms for the nights of April 22-25 (4 nights) will be direct-billed to our hosts, the AvHumboldt Foundation. There is nothing you need to do at this time in regard to reserving a room. In March, the AvHumboldt Foundation will be sending out a memo asking you to confirm your check-in and check-out dates and your flight arrival and departure times.
